EWTC Board Chair Scott Livingston Discusses Leadership and Career Journey at Executive Address

Executive Address with Board Chair Scott Livingston, President of Energy Products and Services Equipment, NOV

The Executive Address featuring Board Chair Scott Livingston, President of Energy Products and Services Equipment, NOV, was held last week. Scott shared insights with attendees about his career journey, highlighting three key topics that have impacted his path the most.

Energy Workforce President Molly Determan opened the event, followed by an introduction from Emerging Executives Committee Member Nate King, Director of Sales for NOV’s Western Hemisphere Land Division, who provided a brief overview of Scott’s background.

Career Journey and Leadership Lessons

Scott shared his experience in the oil and gas industry, emphasizing the importance of open communication and diverse perspectives in leadership. He explained how working with people from different backgrounds has helped him make better decisions and grow as a leader.

“The oil and gas industry has allowed me to evolve and understand that everything is not black and white. There are layers to everything,” he noted, highlighting the complexity of leadership.

Defining Success

Scott redefined success, moving away from traditional metrics like titles or compensation. He emphasized that success is about making a lasting impact on a team, driving change, and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.

“Success isn’t about titles or compensation—it’s about leaving a lasting impact on your team, driving transformation, and cultivating a culture of growth and collaboration,” he said.

Personal Brand and Problem-Solving

Scott stressed the importance of building a personal brand rooted in credibility and authenticity. He also shared his approach to problem-solving, advising leaders to act decisively and adapt as needed.

“Don’t overthink solutions to problems. Make a decision, stick by it, and be adaptable to all situations,” he advised, reinforcing the need for agility in leadership.
