The Leadership Forum with Matthew Rayson, Director of Product Management, Cat Oil & Gas, brought together industry professionals for an afternoon of networking and learning more about his central theme, “Serving Leadership & Technology for Marginal Gains.”
Rayson opened the forum by sharing his personal and career background, tying the start of his leadership journey to his sports experience and emphasizing how being part of a team shaped his early development as a leader.
He reflected that it wasn’t until recently that he fully understood what his coach was doing while guiding the team, underscoring the lasting impact his coach’s leadership approach had on his own leadership journey.
By sharing his career background, Rayson reflected on his various roles within Caterpillar and how each has contributed to his current leadership framework. “I feel like I can take my leadership framework and apply that to any role, regardless of my prior experience,” he shared.
Rayson highlighted The Serving Leader as a book that transformed his outlook on leadership and served as a foundational resource in shaping his philosophy and practices.
He then outlined his leadership framework, highlighting five core elements and stressing two main takeaways: build on your strengths and support your team to achieve collective success.
“You can’t become the best at what you do until those around you are the best at what they do,” Rayson shared.
He wrapped up by discussing the role technology has played in his ongoing development, sharing the tools he uses to drive daily growth.
The session concluded with a Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to learn more about his leadership style and approaches.
