Integrated Leadership Program Highlights Gaining Influence by Building Relationships

Executive Leadership Program: Integrated Leadership

Energy Workforce, in partnership with Heidrick & Struggles, held the third session of the year-long Executive Leadership Program: Integrated Leadership last week. The program equips participants with the skills and tools to effectively lead their teams and become intentional leaders.

Doug Orr, Partner, Heidrick & Struggles, facilitated the session, hosting guest speakers and conducting a simulation exercise to evaluate internal training effectiveness and emphasize the value of genuine connections in organizational dynamics.

Guest speaker Shiva McMahon, Executive Vice President, International Operations, Woodside Energy, shared principles that have helped her lead and influence others to be successful. In addition to sharing her experiences in commercial and financial leadership roles, she also discussed the importance of adopting an enterprise-first mindset, building trust in a team or organization, and understanding the ‘why’ behind inefficiencies. She also highlighted the role of external factors in accelerating change and the need for transparency and trust in the organization.

Jon Graziano, Principal, Heidrick & Struggles, facilitated a simulation with the entire cohort to helps individuals walk through effective strategies to get a large complex organization to adopt a new idea or innovation.

The simulation forces teams to think differently as they collaborate and then take that different way of thinking and apply it to their business.

One participant shared, “What has been impactful for me is how to interface with people and develop a system, or playbook of getting to know and connect with them, and ultimately, the value in building relationships with the people within your organization.”
