Last week, Energy Workforce hosted its largest Washington DC Fly-In group to date, leading discussions with Congressional offices and the Administration advocating for the energy services and technology sector and driving conversations that will shape the future of American energy.
The Fly-In group consisted of over 45 individual members and 30 different member companies, providing an opportunity for sector leadership to advocate for legislation impacting the sector and its workforce directly. With a focus on unleashing American energy, the Energy Workforce leadership focused on priorities that directly affect the sector’s ability to increase production and invest in its workforce, such as permitting reform, consistent Federal leasing, and supply chains and free trade.
Administration Pledges Support to U.S. Energy Production
Members also had the opportunity to hear from a wide range of Administration offices and representatives, each outlining how their respective departments are enacting the President’s goal of unleashing American Energy. U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, highlighted how access on federal lands and the creation of the National Energy Dominance Council prioritizes increased innovation and technology in oilfield service companies across the U.S.
Similarly, Department of Energy’s Ryan Peay, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Resource Sustainability, Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, and Department of State’s, Kimberly Harrington, Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Energy Resources each outlined how their specific offices are aligning priorities to focus on supporting American energy production through supporting energy exports, private/public partnerships, and pilot tests.
From the White House, members heard from Alex Flemister, Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Public Liaison who noted that the President stands with American energy companies in their efforts to bring affordable, reliable, and modern energy to the U.S. and its allies.
Congressional Conversations
Over a series of three days, Fly-In attendees had the opportunity to connect with a geographical variety of House and Senate Members creating different avenues to hold critical discussions on policy priorities.
During the Producers’ Lunch, members heard from the Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and Arkansas delegations to further discuss policies that will power the nation forward and set the future of American energy up for success. Speakers included Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (ND-AL), Congressman Randy Weber (TX-14), Representative Stephanie Bice (OK-05), Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04), and Congressman Wesley Hunt (TX-38).
With visits to the House and Senate offices, small groups led focused discussions on various association priorities including conversations on the importance of comprehensive permitting reform, consistent federal leasing both on and offshore, and the global nature of energy supply chains. With over 35 Congressional Member office visits, these meetings present an opportunity for energy leaders to tell the stories of their individual companies and their workforce.
